This 2-hour masterclass includes a variety of content.

Session 1: Survive and thrive in 2021 (Val Andrew)

The experience of the last 12 months has rightly focused everyone's attention on the impact the pandemic disruption has had on children and their learning. Behind the scenes, all school leaders and especially school business managers, have been at the forefront of the struggle to keep schools open, support and facilitate online learning, and ensure the safety of the school environment. The "real" cost of these efforts is now beginning to emerge with many admitting openly the impact this has had on their own health and well-being.

This session will examine a 3-stage approach to help you:

  • reflect on the experiences of the last 12 months and the impact on you personally;
  • develop a "survival" strategy for the future;
  • focus on your own professional growth and resilience.

Session 2: Communicate with confidence and credibility to effect change (Nickii Messer)

"No matter what job you have in life, your success will be determined 5% by your academic credentials, 15% by your professional experiences, and 80% by your communication skills."  Stephen Wang

School professionals need the best communication skills if they are to present and influence with impact.  That might mean presenting to the senior leadership team or governing body, or even as part of an interview. Or it might entail compiling persuasive, targeted reports.  Sharing good practice through presenting at digital and physical events is also increasingly an essential element of developing professionally.

This session will support you in valuing your perspective and voice, whether verbally or in writing, and explore key skills and techniques to help you address the 6 Golden Cs of Presentation Skills:

Credibility
Communication
Confidence
Concise
Compelling
Completeness
