Dai Durbridge, Partner, Browne Jacobson LLP
Dai is an expert education lawyer at Browne Jacobson and heads up the North West team based in their Manchester office. He advises schools, academies and MATs on a range of frontline education matters, including admissions and exclusions, parental complaints, compliance and all safeguarding issues. Dai leads the Browne Jacobson education team on two complex issues – safeguarding and data protection. A recognised expert in GDPR and data protection for schools, Dai supports schools with all aspects of data protection advice including policy drafting, culture change, subject access requests (SARs), data protection compliance audits and managing personal data breaches. Dai has supported schools with complex SAR requests involving in excess of 90,000 documents, complicated redaction, applying exemptions, justifying extensions and balancing the competing rights of individuals. He has devised and delivered DPO training to over 450 school DPOs to prepare them for their role, much of which has been delivered with Optimus via one-day in person training courses, remote session split over three days and this ongoing development programme designed to provide a higher level of support to help DPOs discharge their duties and support their personal development. More recently, Dai has devised and launched EduCompli, Browne Jacobson’s own online compliance training platform created specifically for schools and trusts.
