Section 3 highlights your new safeguarding and welfare requirements. Optimus Education’s 8th annual Safeguarding in Early Years Settings conference will be addressing each of these EYFS expectations in turn, therefore attend to ensure your setting is fully up-to-date with the latest changes.

Why is this conference relevant?

Children under the age of five are at the highest risk of being the subject of a child protection plan (Children in Need in England, DfE, 2011). So, if you work in early years settings, you must have robust policies and procedures in place to ensure you can identify the signs of abuse and make appropriate referrals in order to effectively safeguard the children in your care.

Further to the recommendations laid out in the Tickell review, and the upcoming revisions to the Early Years Foundation Stage, your safeguarding obligations and duties are changing. Additionally, Ofsted is releasing a new inspection framework, to work alongside the new EYFS, which will also feature changes to safeguarding inspection.

Are you confident you are up-to-date with the changes to your safeguarding obligations?

In addition, are your staff fully aware of their new roles and responsibilities?

“For all those working with young children, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and must be their first and foremost consideration”

Dame Clare TickellTickell Review (2011)
