Self-reflection involves becoming more aware of our learning and how we feel about learning. It is well known that pupils who reflect on how they learn, learn better.

Teachers can help pupils ‘unlock’ their knowledge about how they learn by using activities that encourage pupils to reflect on their thinking and learning. Part of this process is developing metacognition.

What is metacognition?

Metacognition is defined as 'an awareness and understanding of one's own thought processes' i.e. thinking about thinking.
