With the introduction of the GDPR in 25 May 2018, the rules around the processing of personal data changed. This unit examines what all staff need to know about GDPR compliance and how to avoid some of the common pitfalls.

Having knowledge of GDPR and how it affects you and your school is important to ensure that compliance is achieved. It is equally important to have an understanding of the common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

It is the responsibility of all school staff to ensure that your school and individuals comply with the GDPR. It is important that annual training is completed in order to stay abreast of changes to the legislation. It is also important that a high level of understanding of what it means to comply is evidenced in your school policies and procedures – and in the day-to-day functioning of the school.

Publicity surrounding the introduction of the current regulations has brought compliance to the forefront – in many cases for the first time – and governing boards are keen to ensure that they facilitate successful compliance.
