This unit explores the definitions and challenges of children with complex learning difficulties and disabilities (CLDD) and mental health needs. It looks at supportive environments and strategies to help children with complex needs.

Aims and outcomes

  • Understand that many learners have the presence of one or more disorders, disabilities or SEN.
  • Understand the basics of attachment theory and how negative attachments can affect learning in the classroom.
  • Be aware of the mental health difficulties that pupils may face and what they can do to support those pupils.
  • Know how to structure learning that supports complex needs.
