This unit offers a chance to explore what sits behind and beneath wellbeing, so adults in school understand its complexity and really listen to needs.
These needs might be voiced or written, or expressed in other ways, such as through behaviour.
The emphasis is on understanding more about children and young people and integrating this understanding into everyday life, rather than implementing lots of ideas just to show that you are ‘doing something about wellbeing’.
The concepts explored in this unit are:
- the ‘whole’ child
- ACEs/trauma-informed practice
- risk and protective factors
- growth mindset theory.
Think about how you can start to create your wellbeing toolkit, so you can choose what to try now and in the future.
In this unit and in Unit 3, consider how you can make the links to learning explicit, so everyone understands that wellbeing is valuable for itself as well as for improved learning capacity and ability.
Aims and outcomes
- Understand how the concepts in this unit relate to pupil wellbeing and behaviour.
- Develop your ideas about wellbeing promotion and protection.
- Start to create your wellbeing toolkit.
