It is important that leaders and managers in school are able to share and recognise the nature of staff underperformance, and the behaviours and attitudes that are often associated with it.

You may have colleagues who are performing well in the classroom, but who are not contributing to their respective teams, resisting change, or demonstrating negative behaviours and poor relationships with colleagues.

Aims and outcomes

  • Share and recognise the nature of underperformance in your school.
  • Understand the behaviours and attitudes associated with underperformance.
  • Explore ‘prickly behaviour’.
  • Explore behaviours of underperformance and some common denominators.
  • Consider strategies colleagues use to make themselves difficult to approach and how to respond.
