It is all too easy to focus on content, planning, paperwork, coverage and assessment, and forget about how and why the children actually reach their learning goals.
Through encouraging a culture of self-reflection, independent learning and positive learning behaviour, teachers can provide an environment in which pupils can monitor their own learning journey and progress.
Aims and outcomes
This unit will help participants to understand:
- what independent learning is, why it is desirable, and how teachers can introduce it into their classrooms
- why self-reflection in pupils is important, and strategies to encourage the skill
- what is meant by ‘behaviour for learning’, and how to encourage behaviour conductive for learning in class.
