Training Session 1 – Preparing for moderation

  • understand the nine step moderation process
  • understand how the process  can benefit your professional development, your  classroom practice and your pupils’ learning
  • become more confident about preparing for moderation meetings.

Training Session 2 – Moderating pupils’ work

Learning outcomes:

  • use the nine step process to review samples of pupils’ work
  • use assessment criteria in making judgments
  • agree strategies for  resolving differences
  • reflect on features of effective discussion and teamwork
  • see how talking about pupils’ work can extend understanding of learning, teaching and assessment gain confidence in assessing, levelling or grading pupils’ work, and feel more able to make justifiable, consistent decisions.

Training Session 3 – Continuing to develop your moderation processes

Learning outcomes:

  • discuss what else you can do to improve consistency and accuracy in your team assessments
  • share reflections on the experience of the moderation activity – benefits, challenges, effects and consequences
