Overview

Employers, academics, international league tables and Ofsted are all telling us that we need to be better at maths. However, the standards of maths teaching in secondary schools can vary. Inconsistent approaches are used in different subjects, leading to confusion for pupils and a missed opportunity to reinforce the learning of a vital life skill.

Benefits

Embedding Numeracy will enable you to introduce a whole-school approach to numeracy and equip your staff to:

  • understand the importance of achieving a consistent approach to numeracy across the curriculum
  • promote numeracy as a vital life-skill to pupils
  • feel confident about how to teach pupils the application of various mathematical processes within their subjects
  • know where their subject’s curriculum crosses with the maths curriculum and how to build appropriate links between them
  • encourage pupils to continue to learn maths at post-16.
