Safeguarding and child protection are the responsibility of every staff member, whatever their role in the school. In this unit, we look at the definitions of terms used in relation to abuse and neglect, terms school staff will have encountered in school policies and government guidance.
Aims and outcomes
- Understand the terms safeguarding and child protection and what distinguishes one from the other.
- Know the four broad categories of abuse and outline what characterises them.
- Recognise the terms criminal child exploitation (CCE), child-on-child abuse, child sexual exploitation (CSE), county lines, domestic abuse and ‘honour’-based abuse and what they denote.
