Show slides 2 and 3

Remind colleagues about the purpose of this training: over three sessions they will pool experiences and develop ways of using marking, feedback and assessments to benefit pupils’
learning.

In the whole group, participants:

  • share examples of feedforward and feedback
  • adapt the examples to their subject(s) or pupil age group.

Show slides 5–10. They cover six features of effective feedback:

  •  working from models and critiquing examples
  •  focusing on how to do well and how to improve
  •  getting advice from a range of people
  •  not leaving assessment to the end
  •  making practical use of feedback
  •  seeing progress.

Example based on slide 5

A teacher says:
'I show my pupils how to do a specific task by giving them examples of work previous pupils did... And I get them to analyse what’s good and not so good
in the examples by referring
to three key criteria...'

Other colleagues then say how they use that strategy or could adapt it: 'I do a version of that when I...' or 'I can try a version of that if I...'
