Ofsted, standards and the PISA tables

Late last year Ofsted’s chief inspector published his second annual report almost simultaneously with the release by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) of the latest Programme for International Assessment (PISA) tables showing comparative national performance. The messages of the two documents overlap but also seem to contradict one another at times. David Marriott reflects on what governors are to make of it all
