Practical and legal guidance on your new powers to exclude and strategies to avoid exclusions

Why is this conference relevant?

With new guidance on exclusions policy now available and the School Exclusions trial well underway, September will bring a wave of change to the exclusions process. Headteachers will be given greater powers and will no longer be obliged to reinstate excluded students. Furthermore, schools will be responsible for finding and funding alternative provision for permanently excluded pupils.Understanding your new legal obligations is vital to not falling foul of the law.

Are you prepared to manage exclusions in light of these changes? What strategies are you putting in to place to reduce the number exclusions?

What can I expect?

Our 4th annual Exclusions conference brings together practical and legal guidance to ensure you know how to implement these changes effectively. Hear advanced behaviour management strategies to ensure that you are equipped to deal with the most extreme behaviour problems before the need for exclusion.

Giving you a comprehensive update on the legal changes is Mark Blois, Partner, Browne Jacobson LLP. He will outline the main alterations to current exclusions policy how they will impact upon your school.

With the ‘School Exclusions’ trial now underway, trial schools are adapting to the new procedures and learning from their own mistakes. John Anthony, Chief Education Officer, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will discuss the implications of the trial on schools and what they would have liked to have known earlier.
